About Dr. Gallagher

Dr. Carol Gallagher is President of the Executive Women’s Alliance and Managing Partner of the Alliance for Excellence, an international leadership development consulting firm specializing in executive coaching, consulting and targeted development programs for senior executive and managerial women. Carol uniquely combines her experience as a corporate executive with her knowledge of human behavior.

To complement her consulting, she delivers keynote addresses to corporations and organizations on what it takes to be a senior executive as well as how to retain and develop key talent. Her presentations draw on interviews with 200 top corporate executives for her best-selling book Going to the Top, published by Viking. Carol has been recognized for her unprecedented research by NBC, CBS, ABC, the CBC and Oprah’s Oxygen Cable Network. She has also been featured on National Public Radio and The Wall Street Journal, The Globe and Mail, USA Today, The New York Times and The Washington Post, as well as many other publications. The National Press Club listed Going to the Top as one of the top 100 books for the year.

Prior to leading the EWA, Carol was a senior principal at American Management Systems, a $1.2 billion systems integration consulting corporation where she was the executive responsible for the management and operations of AMS’s leadership consulting practice. Earlier, Carol was an IBM sales representative, responsible for selling mainframe computer systems to IBM's strategic accounts.

Before IBM, Carol served as a financial analyst for Goldman Sachs & Company, where she performed risk analysis and evaluated profit and loss for international trading portfolios. Working on Wall Street, Carol became familiar with corporate investment strategies, gained a new appreciation for the complexities of managing a business, and developed her own capacity for managing stress. At the beginning of her career, Carol was a management consultant with Andersen Consulting in its London, New York City and Dallas offices, where she integrated banking and brokerage clients' computer systems with their corporate objectives.

Carol has a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, now Alliant International University, where she serves as an Officer and Trustee, is a member of the Executive Committee and chairs its Institutional Advancement Committee. Carol is also a member of the Wyndham International Hotels Advisory Board. She lives in the San Francisco Bay area.
